We see God's revelation through John to the seven churches in Asia Minor against the backdrop of Jesus' promise in John's Gospel where John recorded it in Chapter 14: "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also." The return is called the Rapture of the Church; the day when Christ will fulfill His promise to return and take home to heaven every person who has put their faith in His finished work on a cross at Calvary. John earlier recorded in his gospel that God loved us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in our place, as our substitute, and pay the price of our sin. We only need to believe that, and put our faith in that, to be born again into the family of God, be placed in His Church, and be assured of an Eternity in Heaven with God. In Revelation, Chapter 1 we see the risen, glorified Christ begin His message through His servant John. In Verse 19 He gives us the outline of the message: Write the things which you have seen - Chapter 1 - The risen, glorified Christ. And the things which are - Chapters 2 & 3 - The 7 literal churches which were in Asia Minor. And the things which shall be hereafter - Chapters 4 - 22 - Everything from chapter 4:1 through the end of the book will happen in the future.
