Revelation 20, 21, & 22
The fifth seal is opened and we find under the altar the souls of those who were martyred for their faith. The altar is the sacrificial altar from Leviticus, and speaks of those having sacrificed their lives for their faith. Many will sacrifice their lives for their faith during this tribulation period and will join the thousands who have done so in the past. These are not martyrs of the Church age however, because they were resurrected and caught up at the Rapture. These are those who will be martyred for declaring the Gospel of the Kingdom in Matthew 24:9-14. Notice that they are not wispy spirits in heaven, but have bodies that can wear white robes.
