Revelation 20, 21, & 22
The first angel sounds his trumpet, and the horror of God's trumpet judgments upon a world that has rejected His son begins. I think that it is interesting to note that many of the judgments during the Tribulation period are closely related to the plagues God sent upon Egypt. The first four trumpets have to do with the earth and the heavenly bodies. It is the same as the seventh plague against Egypt, where thunder and hail came and fire ran along the ground. The trumpet calls forth hail and fire mixed with blood to be cast upon the earth. This is a fulfillment of Joel 2:30-31: "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth; blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned in darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord." When scripture speaks of the "great day of the Lord" it can refer to either the entire seven years or only the first three and a half years of the tribulation period. When scripture speaks of the "great & terrible day of the Lord" it refers to the last three and a half years. The devastation on the earth as a result of the first trumpet includes one third of the trees and all the green grass. This will impact the food chain as fruit trees will be affected and all the pastureland will be gone.
