Revelation 20, 21, & 22
The first of the three woes begin as a star falls from heaven. This could very well be Satan as he is called Lucifer, son of the morning in Isaiah 14:12. He opens the bottomless pit with a key that is given to him. Satan can only do that which God allows him to do. Satan now is able to release a horde of demonic creatures the likes of which the world has never seen or even imagined! The bottomless pit must be a place of fire and smoke, as the first thing that rolls out of the pit is a smoke that is so thick that it blots out the sun and the moon. The horror that erupts from that pit is not the smoke, but the demonic creatures that emerge from that smoke. They are shaped like locusts, and look like horses dressed in battle gear, with breastplates of iron. Their wings make the sound of horses running, and pulling chariots to battle. They have faces like men and have crowns of gold on their heads. They have long hair like women and teeth like lions. They have scorpion tails that are able to produce a horrible sting like that of a scorpion. They have a king over them who directs their plague. They are to torment all who have not been sealed by God in their forehead, and that torment will last for five months. The pain of this stinging torment will be so severe that men will desire to die. They apparently even try to commit suicide to get away from the pain, but cannot die to escape the torment. After five months, the first woe is past! Two more are coming!
