We are now introduced to two wonders in heaven. The first is a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, with a crown of twelve stars on her head. She is the nation of Israel. God the father refers to Israel in the Old Testament as His unfaithful wife. (Jeremiah 3:14) The stars in her crown are the 12 tribes of Israel, identified in Revelation 7:4-8. She is about to deliver a child to the world. The second wonder is a great red dragon. It is red reflecting the blood of his murders. It is a dragon because he is vicious. He has seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his head. This identifies him with the beast in Revelation 13 and 17. The dragon is Satan. When he was cast out of Heaven because of his sin, he took one third of the angels with him, as described in Isaiah 14:12-15. The male child is of course, our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who will rule with a rod of iron as spoken of in Revelation 2:27. He was caught up to His throne in heaven in Acts 1:9 where He now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Israel will be under much persecution during the Tribulation period, but God will preserve a remnant of His people as He always does.
